Hilton Bora Bora Nui: the real life version of what you imagine when you hear “Bora Bora.”
From the time you arrive at the Hilton (now called Conrad) Bora Bora Nui’s reception area (by boat, of course!) and are greeted with a lei and a fresh glass of pineapple juice, it’s clear that the Hilton takes great pride in ensuring your stay is impeccable. The resort is quite large–it takes about 25 minutes to walk from one end to the other–so after checking in the porter drove us to our bungalow in a golf cart (which is how we traveled from our room to the main hotel for most of our stay).
As it happens, we were some of the first guests to stay in their recently renovated King Deluxe Overwater Villas, which was a fantastic treat. The interior of our bungalow featured a king-sized bed with a view of the lagoon, two sitting areas (one section with a couch and another with a dining table), a dressing room, and an enormous bathroom with two separate vanities, a whirlpool tub, and a waterfall shower. Although our bungalow didn’t have the classic ‘viewing panel’ that lets you look through the floor and down into the water, the balcony area more than made up for it. The massive deck had a top section with lounge chairs and two built-in hammocks for laying in the sun, and a lower section with an outdoor shower and ladder into the lagoon. It was the perfect setup for snorkeling under our villa: we could easily rinse off our equipment with fresh water from the outdoor shower, and lay our towels on the hammocks to let them dry in the sunshine.
When we visited the hotel was undergoing extensive renovations, so only one restaurant was open during our stay. The breakfast buffet offered a wide range of options, but the lunch and dinner menus were a bit more limited. Because of the resort’s remote location, there were times that the restaurant didn’t have some common ingredients (such as lettuce and tomatoes), but the chefs did a nice job of creating dishes off-the-cuff to work around this.
Beyond the incredible snorkeling under our villa (we saw eagle rays, an octopus, and an unbelievable variety of fish), outdoor activities at the Hilton included standup paddle boarding and kayaking. We also took a short hike up the mountain to the “Million Dollar View” area, which overlooks the turquoise lagoon and entire Hilton property. It was a perfect place to take in the stunning combination of nature and grass-thatched buildings that make up the Hilton Bora Bora Nui: million dollar view indeed.
